A kensio tape is an elastic therapeutic tape made up from cotton tape with an acrylic adhesive. The adhesive is hypo-allergenic and is latex free. It was developed by Japanese Chiropractor Dr Kenzo Kase. He found that this tape has same effects as manual massage. The tape became very popular after it was donated to 58 countries for use during the 2008 Olympic Games, Now days it is used by acupuncturists, physiotherapists and occupational therapists through the world to treat injuries and other physical disorders. How Does It Works?
A thin layer of skin between muscle and dermis is the cause of many joint and muscle pains. The inflammation of muscles causes compression of this space. This compression puts pressure on pain receptors resulting in the feeling of soreness to affected area. Several studies have proved that this tape plays a beneficial role in increasing strength and also in increasing the range of motion. it is applied along the paths of ligaments and tendons and does a great job of providing elastic support which more closely mimics actual tendons than non-elastic athletic tape or an external brace which must be tightened onto the body.
Stop Using for a Long Time
In most cases, the tape is indeed complementary and used to assist the body. Using it for a too long a period of time can have the result that you start adapting. It sounds as if this has been the case. Normally we use this tape in conjunction with other therapy and I think you were completely right to stop using it. Other thing is that we know that contact dermatitis could become an issue if you use any tape brand for too long.
