How Beneficial Kensio Tape In Prevention & Treatment of Sport Injuries

Posted by Donna Newman on

An Overview

Injuries are common in sports like athletics, tennis ,football etc. It takes more than weeks for a player to recover from a sport injury. A sport injury causes not only pain but also cause stiffness and inflammation. These days players make use of kensio tape to prevent themselves from injuries. Besides this, a kensio tape also helps player in early recovery.

How Kinesio Helps in Sports Injuries

A kensio tape is an elastic therapeutic tape made up from cotton tape with an acrylic adhesive. The adhesive is hypo-allergenic and is latex free. It was developed by Japanese Chiropractor Dr Kenzo Kase. He found that this tape has same effects as manual massage. The tape became very popular after it was donated to 58 countries for use during the 2008 Olympic Games, Now days it is used by acupuncturists, physiotherapists and occupational therapists through the world to treat injuries and other physical disorders. It is considered effective for a wide variety of problems not only sport injuries.

It is also used by players  as a preventive measure to protect themselves from injuries while playing as it supports muscles and joints. It can stretch and contract, preventing damaging movements but allowing the right kind.

How Does It Works?

A thin layer of skin between muscle and dermis is the cause of many joint and muscle pains. The inflammation of muscles causes compression of this space. This compression puts pressure on pain receptors resulting in the feeling of soreness to affected area. Conventional therapies further compress this area but kentia tape lift the upper layer of the skin and allows increased flow of blood and lymphatic fluids.

Advantages Of Kensio Tape:-

I read an interesting article on Kinesiology tape recently which explained how many physiotherapists felt that the tape had a purely psychological effect on the athlete and even though I do wholeheartedly believe in the power of the human mind I think it might actually work.

1. Relief From Pain & Injury:

Pain and injury always slows down you. Kinesiology tape benefits in a wide variety of musculoskeletal and sports injuries, plus inflammatory conditions. Kensio tape reduces pressure on pain receptors and relieves from pain. It facilitates the healing process. The damage is already done to an extent, definitely - but if you can help your body more efficiently finish the inflammation process then you can begin the repair phase of healing faster.

2. Effective in Water:

Kensio tape can last through showers, humidity so it can be worn during activity and after activity. You can wear it during swimming or even during playing sand volleyball.

3. Durable & Long Lasting :

It is made up of 97% cotton and 3% linen which makes it very comfortable to wear and can be worn for five days at a time without irritating the skin and restricting the motion.

4. Improves Strength:

Several studies have proved that this tape plays a beneficial role in increasing strength and also in increasing the range of motion. it is applied along the paths of ligaments and tendons and does a great job of providing elastic support which more closely mimics actual tendons than non-elastic athletic tape or an external brace which must be tightened onto the body.

Stop Using for a Long Time

In most cases, the tape is indeed complementary and used to assist the body. Using it for a too long a period of time can have the result that you start adapting. It sounds as if this has been the case. Normally we use this tape in conjunction with other therapy and I think you were completely right to stop using it. Other thing is that we know that contact dermatitis could become an issue if you use any tape brand for too long.
